Lajes Field, The Azores, Portugal
I first arrived here in 1975 on an Air Force flight from New Jersey. The
flight left around midnight and arrived around 9:00 am. I was met at the
terminal, taken to the barracks and told I was checked in, rest, and
everything would be taken care of the next day. I spent the next 14 months
here and have very good memories.
This time I arrived on a regular commercial flight from Lisbon, Portugal, at
around 11:00pm after a long day of travel. Similar to last time, check into
the hotel and get a good nights sleep.
First full day, I managed to get a very good cab driver that would hire by
the hour. He was also old enough that he knew where the NSGA operation had
been and had driven people there for various reasons. We started out for a
tour of the island.
